Alledged Sponsorship Of Criminal Gang: Rivers Police Detain Council Chairman!

Information which filtered into the Newsroom of Themeteornews and carefully perched on the Crime Desk, has it that the Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State,Hon Paul Vidag Kobani has been arrested by operatives of Rivers State Police Command.

Sources said the Council Chairman was taken into custody in the wee hours of Thursday shortly after crack detectives stormed his home following his alleged implication in the activities of fallen kidnapper and cultist, Honest Degbara aka Boboski.

The Council Chairman is currently held at the E-Crack headquarters located at the Divisional Police Headquarters,Mile I in the Diobu Area of the State capital.

It was learnt that Hon. Kobani was an alleged sponsor of the Ogoni- born criminal who was also on the Council’s monthly payroll.

Bobosky who had been on the Police watch list and declared wanted by the State Government with a bounty of 30 million Naira, was arrested at the early hours of Saturday, September 12,2020 in a sting operation by the State Police Command and local security outfit at Korokoro community, Tai Local Government Area where he had gone to attend a funeral wake.

His driver died in the ensuing shootout with the Police but he was arrested alive with fatal injuries that culminated in his death shortly after he was paraded before Journalists at the State Police Command Headquarters along Moscow Road.

State Commissioner of Police, Compol Joseph Mukan said the late Boboski notoriously committed the following crimes:

I. The kidnap of Barrister Emelogu who was kidnapped and killed after collecting ransom.”

“ii The kidnap and killing of the DCO, Afam, SP Moses Egbede after collecting ransom.”

“iii The killing of a soldier and a oersonnel of NSCDC at Gio pipeline, Ogoni last year.”

“iv The KIdnap of Chief Mbu of Ogu/Bolo who they kidnapped and collected ransom of 7million Naira.”

“v The killing of two Police Officers attached to the Federal Highway Patrol and their rifles taken at Botem.”

In the meantime, Governor Nyesom Wike has redeemed the thirty million Naira bounty placed on the head of Boboski by the State Government.

Governor Wike while presenting the cheque to Compol Mukan on behalf of the security personnel that effected his arrest and the whistle blower in Port Harcourt on Thursday, said he was elated that the Police worked in synergy with the local populace to capture the criminal.

Governor Wike who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government ( SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, said his administration will continue to give premium attention to the security of the people and visitors to the State.

“Governor Wike will continue to stand by his words because this is not the first time such redemption is happening in the State. If we can recall when the Governor made a promise over Don Wani, a criminal who disturbed the peace of ONELGA, all security agencies and the citizenry were activated to capture him and the pledge was also redeemed”, he said.

“I thank the Police officers for their gallantry in arresting the criminal and I also thank the informants who cannot be mentioned here.”

Responding, the Compol Mukan thanked the Governor for fulfilling his promise just as he stressed that the officers involved in the operation, exhibited utmost professionalism in carrying out the assignment.

He said the recent Community Policing Scheme introduced by the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has assisted the Command in effective information and intelligence gathering.

  • Hon.Kobani.He further submitted that efforts were in top gear to arrest other criminal elements especially members of Boboski’s gang who are terrorizing the Ahoada axis of the State.
